The Center State Stampede Pee Wees, the youth hockey team for Cazenovia, Morrisville and Hamilton, will be playing to win their division on Sunday, Feb. 4, in Morrisville against the Whitestown Red team of Whitesboro.
The Center State team, composed of nine first-year Pee Wee players and four who qualify for Squirts, the age group below Pee Wees, plays in the Snowbelt League, which is a mid-level talent youth hockey league. “Needless to say, we are young and pretty small compared to most of our competition,” said Coach Brian Fitts.
Despite their young ages, the players have “far exceeded” Fitts expectations, he said. At the beginning of the season, Fitts set a goal for the team to win more games than lost, and to finish in the upper half of their 11-team division. They currently are on a 13-game unbeaten streak with an overall record of 17 wins 4 losses and 2 ties.
The youth team is currently tied for their division lead, with an opportunity to win the division against the Whitestown Red team on Sunday at their home rink.
Fitts said that this is undoubtedly an “accomplishment for these kids.”
The game is open to the public and will be held on Sunday at the Morrisville Iceplex starting at 10:15 a.m. More information can be found on their team website at centerstatehockey.com
