The town of Skaneateles is preparing to unveil its new website this month.
The website, which will still be found at townofskaneateles.com, was recently redesigned by Syracuse Design, a firm that has done websites for a number of municipalities and businesses in the region. Designer Frank Smith gave a short presentation highlighting the features and new design of the website at the town board’s Nov. 9 meeting. The website is “state of the art,” is largely customizable and has a mobile version for smart phones, Smith said. Town Clerk Janet Aaron, who acts as the administrator of the website, noted that it is easier to find forms, agendas, minutes and other items on the new site since they are linked in multiple places. Smith said with a few final touches the website will be ready to launch this month.
Syracuse Design was awarded the contract for the redesign of the website earlier this year for a cost of $7,340 and $240 per year to host the domain name. Along with the website redesign the board took a couple actions Thursday to update its technology capabilities in town hall. It will increase its service from Time Warner Cable to get more bandwidth for its internet connection at a cost of an additional $30 per month. It also moved to purchase a new server for town hall, to replace a five-year-old one, at a cost of $13,000 taken from the equipment reserve fund. —The board moved to set a public hearing for 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 on its 2014 fire service contract with the village.
