Cazenovia’s girls indoor track and field team had the same happy experience during its second trip to Colgate University for Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association action as it did the first time around. In fact, the Lakers did better, improving its total from 90 points to 114, and ran away from Clinton (71 points) and the rest of the field. Rome Free Academy was third with 68 points. Cazenovia won seven events, claiming all three sprints. Ashley Winn and Jillian Vogl swept the top two individual spots in two different races as the Lakers won the 55-meter dash in 15.56 seconds and the 300-meter dash in 1:25.82. Paige Biviano and Beth Marcelle propelled Cazenovia to a win in the 55-meter hurdles in 20.57 seconds. Piper Gianforte had the top pole vault clearance of 8 feet 6 inches as she and Michelle McGinnis (15 feet 6 inches total) won. Hollie Marcelle was the individual champion at 1,000 meters (3:21.07), as Margaret Wolsey took third (3:25.41) and the Lakers won again in 6:46.48. Jeanette Cudney and Tori Wright took the 3,000-meter run in 24:43.85 and watched Isabel Stockmar and Christie Tainter combine to win the shot put, their throws going 57 feet 5 1/2 inches. Cazenovia added second-place efforts in the 600-meter run (3:42.72) and high jump (9 feet 2 inches), and were third in the 200-meter dash, long jump and triple jump, plus fourth in the weight throw. It even took the top two spots in the sprint medley relay, which didn’t count for points. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill was fifth with 29 points, faring best in the shot put, where it was second (56 feet 9 inches) to Cazenovia. Oneida had 15 points for sixth place, tying for third in the pole vault and landing in fourth in the 1,500. Over in the boys MVITA gathering, Cazenovia earned 51 points for fourth place, not far from Utica Proctor’s winning total of 70 points. Led by Tom Mackowiak, the Lakers tied for second in the 55-meter dash in 14.34 seconds and grabbed second alone in the 600 (3:13.83) and 1,000 (5:52.52), with Pat Dermody and Noah Shephard running in both events. The Lakers were also third in the 3,200, triple jump and pole vault, plus fourth in the high jump. Chittenango rose up to sixth place, finishing with 29 points as, with Brad Murray and Jason Ceresoli, it won the 3,200 with a total time of 22:37.01 as it also took fourth in the 300 and triple jump. Oneida had 20 points, half of them from winning the high jump as Jimmy Moyer won (6 feet 3 inches) and teamed with Dale Ortlieb for a total clearance of 11 feet 2 inches. Dan Margo and Kyle Blessing added a third (80 feet 3 1/4 inches) in the shot put.
