After working so hard just to reach the Section III Class C-2 playoffs, the Cazenovia girls lacrosse team had no time to regroup before the eliminations began. With the Lakers sitting as the no. 8 seed in C-2, it would have to go right into playoff action Saturday against no. 9 seed General Brown in the opening round at the Fenner Street complex. It proved to be a high-scoring affair — but Cazenovia survived, beating the Lions 17-15, but not without some more stress. GB edged its way into a 10-9 halftime lead, led by Nichole Eamer and Haleigh Flint, who each would finish with four goals and combine for five assists. Cazenovia fought back, though, and claimed the lead for good in the late stages. Gabby Jaquith, with a season-best eight assists, kept finding Kaitlyn Button and Katie Kleine, who finished with five goals apiece. Kendra Volz and Becca Wheeler each had two goals, with Wheeler adding an assist. Colleen Dougherty put up one goal and one assist as Hillary Bullock also converted. So in Monday’s C-2 quarterfinal, Cazenovia will measure up against top seed Christian Brothers Academy, with the winner to get Watertown IHC or Tully in Wednesday’s semifinal round. The C-2 final is Friday night at Solvay’s Earl Hadley Stadium
