When the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool softball teams gather together next Thursday night at Gillette Field, the intention is to finish what they began a month earlier. In that snow-filled April 3 opener, the Northstars and Warriors went 10 long innings, finally stopping at darkness with the two teams still tied 4-4. Now the league game between the two long-time antagonists is near, and they both come into it playing at their usual high level. CNS took apart Auburn 16-0 last Wednesday at Gillette Field, ignoring the windy conditions to score in every inning. Already up 5-0, the Northstars clinched matters by scoring eight times in the bottom of the fourth. Sarah Salamone had a complete-game shutout, holding Auburn to six hits and constantly escaping jams with her nine strikeouts. At the plate, Salamone got three hits, leading a balanced attack where she, along with Jenna Perry, Amy Van Hoven and Felicia Lattanzio, drove in two runs apiece. Sydney O’Hara tripled and earned an RBI as Lindsay Flanagan and Jenn Huff also had RBIs. Perry had the other triple. The CNS offense continued to tear things up in Thursday’s 13-2 win over Baldwinsville, the team’ second over the Bees in April. A 2-2 game turned around when CNS notched two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Then it got away for good with a seven-run outburst in the top of the seventh. Eight Northstar players came up with at least two hits, with Huff and Sydney Harbaugh each getting three hits. O’Hara doubled, tripled and drove in two runs as Huff and Van Hoven also had two Rbis. Salamone scored three runs and joined Harbaugh and Sam Cirillo with single RBIs. Meanwhile, Liverpool blanked Corcoran 17-0, getting one-hit pitching from Ashley Kovarik and Michelle Hopkins as it lashed out for 20 hits, including an eight-run second inning. Angela Charles went deep for a home run, as she and Terra Lawler both had three RBIs. Abby Romano, Tiffany Sampere and Sarah Tram each drove in two runs as Emily Dumas, Stephanie VanDusen, Nicole Ciricillo and Darci Muldoon had one RBI apiece. Muldoon and Ciricillo led with one hit apiece.
