When the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA and Fayetteville-Manlius boys swim teams resumed action in the new year, both wanted to have as little stress as possible. On the Red Rams’ side, it faced a solid test from New Hartford Wednesday night, but handled it quite well and beat the Spartans 102-80. Three different swimmers — Garrett Farchione, Russ Farchione and Mike Jorgensen — earned two victories apiece in this meet. Jorgensen tore through the 200 freestyle in 1:48.88, then moved on to win the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:01.10. In the 200 freestyle relay, Jorgensen teamed with Matt Kopp, Max Devesty and Brian Daley to win in 1:37.18. As for Russ Farchione, he started out by helping his brother, along with Devesty and Lyndon Pisansky, take the 200 medley relay in 1:51.06. Russ then went out and swam the 200 individual medley in 2:11.78 and rolled to first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.44. Garrett Farchione went from his relay leg to covering the 100 butterfly in 58.49 seconds and rolling to a win in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.92. Kopp prevailed in the 100 freestyle (56.23 seconds) after Shawn Thieke earned 188.85 points on the diving board. Just two nights later, J-D/CBA competed again, ripping past Fulton 91-63 to improve its record to 5-1. Jorgenson won the 200 IM (2:08.37), while Garrett Farchione took the 50 freestyle (24.60 seconds) and Russ Farchione swam the 100 butterfly in 57.99 seconds. Thieke improved to 191.75 points in diving. Elsewhere, Cole Speidel emerged to take the 200 freestyle (2:03.06), then added a second victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.34. Tom Keane won the 100 backstroke (1:08.82), with Brendan McNamara taking the 100 freestyle (57.99 seconds) and Lyndon Pisansky needing 6:03 to swim the 500 freestyle. McNamara and Russ Farchione joined Dan Schoeneck and John Jaworski to win the 200 medley relay (1:56.78), and Farchione also swam in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.29) with Devesty, Kopp and Connor Netti. In between all this, F-M took its turn on Thursday night, at Oswego, where it was in contention right until the last race before the Buccaneers snatched it away in the homestretch to hand the Hornets a 92-88 defeat. After a day full of strong performances on both sides, it all hung on the 400 freestyle relay, where Oswego edged past F-M with a time of 3:40.67. F-M had plenty of highlights early in the meet. Jack Robinson, Kevin Koh, Will Twichell and Ryan Kelley combined to win the opening 200 medley relay in 1:46.01. Not stopping there, Robinson also prevailed in the 200 individual medley (2:09.64) and also won the 100 backstroke in 58.07 seconds. Kelley emerged to take the 100 breaststroke (1:04.74) as Luke Oliverio swam the 100 freestyle in 54.73 seconds. Oswego featured Drake Becksted and Reeve Callen. They swam in both the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays, with Becksted taking the 50 freestyle (22.03 seconds) and 100 butterfly (52.93 seconds), and Callen prevailing in the 200 freestyle (1:55.67) and 500 freestyle (5:15.05). As F-M meets Nottingham this week at the pool they share, J-D/CBA is home, first to face Weedsport before a huge Friday battle with Mexico.
