Given the current economy and budget crises at the state and county levels, which areas of the budget do you feel the town could cut back to alleviate the pressure on taxpayers? Although I have not been privy to seeing the specifics of the current budget I believe I would focus first on helping to identify areas where we can share services with all local stakeholders (including the school district, both villages and the town) to work to manage spending in each. In what ways do you think the town could consolidate services with villages, neighboring towns or the county to increase efficiency and keep costs down? I believe that all services from office supplies to public relations to mechanic services should be reviewed for consideration for consolidation with surrounding areas. In addition to the towns and villages I believe we also need to work closely with the school districts. We need to find as many ways as possible to leverage economies of scale to manage expenses for our residents. What recent projects do you feel you would have approached differently than the incumbent and why? I would have chosen to hold off on the recent town property tax re-evaluation. Given the current economic environment and the impact on property values I believe that it would have been a better choice to hold off on conducting the re-evaluation after things stabilize. In what area is the town most in need of improvement and how would you work to fix that?
I believe that we can improve communication with town residents. I would work toward a more open and honest exchange of ideas prior to making important decisions that will impact the future of our community.
