In some of the season’s harshest conditions, Cicero-North Syracuse golfer Brad Monroe earned his second consecutive CNY Counties League individual championship. Monroe took the title during Wednesday’s league qualifier at Green Lakes, which would set the field for the Section III championships, not held until late May at Colgate University’s Seven Oaks Course in Hamilton. Monroe shot an 18-hole total of 74, just missing par on a cold day where the winds whipped past 30 miles per hour. Monroe had enough to beat West Genesee’s Luke Smith (75) by a single shot. As a team, CNS Blue shot 403, finishing second in a field of 11 as West Genesee (397) went to the front. CNS Green took seventh place with 434, just beating Liverpool (441) in eighth place. In all, five Northstars advanced to May. Mike Cavallo (Blue) and Mike Mento (Green) each shot 79 to tie for 10th place, while Dan Sciarrino (Blue)) posted an 80 for a share of 15th place and Eric Misiaszek (Green) posted an 81 to tie for 17th. Prior to this, CNS Green came up with a win last Monday, taking out Henninger 205-238 at Northern Pines. Over nine holes, Frank Valino Jr. shot 40, as did Cory Piper. Joey Petrin was close behind with a 41 as Wes Sprague and Kevin Stone each posted 42. This happened while CNS Blue took a 200-207 loss to Oswego, the team that knocked Fayetteville-Manlius from the unbeaten ranks on Oct. 1. Monroe had the low individual round of 38 at Oswego Country Club, with Damien George adding a 39. Austin Tracz and Scot Quenville each shot rounds of 39 on the Buccaneers’ behalf. Liverpool ran into F-M last Monday at Woodcrest, losing to the Hornets 195-218. Though Josh Grome shot a 42, one shot better than J.C. Eallonardo, Ryan Fero (37) led a group of five F-M players at 40 or better.
