It took three tries, but the Jamesville-DeWitt football team finally got some consistent production on the offensive side – and also got into the win column. The Red Rams gave new head coach Eric Ormond his first victory when it beat visiting Mexico 28-14 on Friday afternoon. Through two weeks (and two losses, to Fowler and Whitesboro), J-D had managed just 10 total points. By the end of the first half against Mexico, the Rams had already tripled that output. Akeen Williams lit the spark in the first quarter, breaking loose for a 38-yard touchdown run, the only points either team got in that period. Then it was Jerome Bryant’s turn to spring a big play. From his own 39, Bryant took a pitch and didn’t stop until he had run to the other goal line. Bryant also made the two-point conversion, making it 14-0. After Mexico closed to 14-7 on Jacob Burke’s eight-yard TD run, the Rams answered with a march to the Tigers’ four-yard line, from where David Sacco found Demetrius Mitchell for a scoring pass. Unaccustomed to working with a lead, J-D got cautious in the third quarter, and Mexico used a long march to close the gap to 21-14, with Jimmy Loomis going the final yard past the goal line. But with Bryant working his way to 120 yards on 12 carries, J-D regained control in the final period. Joe Shepard’s six-yard scoring run provided the clincher. The Rams’ third straight home game comes next Friday, when it hosts Nottingham at 6:30. The Bulldogs, like J-D, are 1-2, coming off a 26-13 loss to Oswego.
