Getting more competitive and confident heading into May, the Chittenango softball team got its first OHSL Freedom division win of the season last Wednesday afternoon, at Cortland, where it picked up a 3-1 victory over the Purple Tigers as part of a doubleheader split. All of the Bears’ runs in the winning portion of the twin bill came in the fourth inning, as Brittany McDonald and Shelby Bogle got credit for one RBI apiece. The other game proved just as close, but Cortland prevailed, 7-6, scoring two runs in the seventh inning to finish on top. Before that, Chittenango, down 5-1, used five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to seize a 6-5 lead and earned 13 hits overall. Still, pitcher Jessica McDonald could not hold that lead and took the loss.
