Resuming after a two-week, weather-enforced break, the Marcellus boys indoor track and field team rose to a tie for third place during last Thursday night’s George Constantino Invitational at Manley Field House. Overall, the Mustangs had 30 points, the same as Liverpool and well above every other small school in the field. Cicero-North Syracuse and Corcoran tied for first place with 41 points. Twice, Marcellus found the win column. Chris Stogsdill ran away from the 1,000-meter field, claiming that middle-distance race in 2:32.38, nearly six seconds ahead of the runner-up, Jamesville-DeWitt’s Bumkuth Jiak. Stogsdill’s teammate, Jesse Garn, was fourth in 2:40.19, meaning that Marcellus got 14 of those 30 points from a single event. Meanwhile, in the 600-meter run, Mike Quercia adjusted his sprint skills and earned another victory, his time of 1:25.24 enough to edge past Corcoran’s Trenton Sparks (1:25.89) at the wire. In the 55-meter dash, Quercia was sixth in 6.72 seconds. Both Stogsdill and Quercia will be back on Tuesday night at Manley to battle in the Section III championship meet.
