Even at home, the Solvay boys basketball team could not slow down Bishop Grimes’ late-season momentum in last Wednesday night’s 74-55 loss to the Cobras. Grimes, on much the same hot streak that it used to move toward the Section III Class B-1 title a season ago, steadily built its margin through the first half, even though the Bearcats stayed within sight. Only when Solvay dropped to nine points in the third quarter did the game get out of reach. Still, Andrew Lucio finished with 17 points, including three 3-pointers, while Mike Rowlands got 11 points. Both Devanere Surrey and Dan Aiello had six points. Meanwhile, the Cobras’ star sophomore, Mike Stone, continued to shine with 22 points, with Tavon Moore earning a career-best 16 points and Mike Sugamosto adding 10 points. The Bearcats fell to 5-12 on the season.
