Against a local foe, the Fayetteville-Manlius boys basketball team found some late-season momentum as it moved toward Tuesday night’s key home contest against defending Class AA champion Henninger. In Tuesday night’s home game against East Syracuse-Minoa, the Hornets (11-4) did not treat its neighbors kindly, beating the Spartans 75-55 to clinch a winning record for 2008-09. During a fast-paced first half, F-M leaped out in front, but could not shake the Spartans as it had to take a 40-33 lead to the break. Only once did the Hornets’ defense really step up — in the third quarter, where it held ESM to eight points as the lead grew to 59-41 and the outcome got settled. Brian Zapisek hovered around his average with 21 points, but Erik Mueller and Mike O’Neil both took pressure off him, as Mueller earned 20 points and O’Neil finished with 18 points. On ESM’s side, Greg Raab hit four 3-pointers on his way to 19 points for the night, but Quadear Mike (11 points) was the only other Spartan player in double figures.
