To the editor:
Nearly 200 students volunteered for several hours at our annual Phone-a-thon/Mail-a-thon on Sunday, March 12. Some called district residents, businesses, family members and friends while others stuffed envelopes with letters seeking donations for scholarships. Liverpool Dollars for Scholars awarded more than 200 scholarships worth over $100,000 to students in the Class of 2016; we hope to award even more to this year’s graduates. Our goal is to raise at least $20,000 from our largest fundraiser.
We are grateful for the support from the Liverpool Central School District; the high school administrators attended the event and worked with Dollars for Scholars Board members and students to ensure a successful Phone-a-thon/Mail-a-thon. Board member Becky Dunstone chaired the event.
Special thanks to Pizza Villa (409 Tulip St., Liverpool) and Little Caesars Pizza (420 Seventh North St., Liverpool) for donating enough pizza to feed the crowd and Blue Spruce Lounge at Maplewood Suites Extended Stay (400 Seventh North St., Liverpool) for donating salad. Wegmans provided a gift card to help defray the cost of additional food and beverage items. The following businesses and individuals donated gift cards and other prizes for student volunteers: ChuckleBerries (Liverpool), Dunstone Family, Nancy Dutelle, Edge Federal Credit Union (Liverpool), Flamingo Bowl (Liverpool), Rick Fensterer, Hilton Doubletree Hotel (East Syracuse), Matt Hinkey, Moe’s Southwest Grill (Liverpool), Panera Bread (Erie Boulevard), Starbucks (Liverpool) and Trappers II Pizza and Pub (Minoa). By keeping expenses to a minimum, we can award more scholarships to deserving students. Please thank the generous merchants by frequenting their businesses.
We continue to be grateful to the entire Liverpool community for your generosity. Year after year, you show your enthusiasm for our students by responding to our requests for donations. You demonstrate your belief in higher education for Liverpool High School students by supporting our worthwhile cause. Donations of any amount are always appreciated. Questions?
