Laurice T. Bonin, 86, went to be with the Lord on March 2. She was born in Utica, the daughter of the late Jalil and Phillipine (Boustany) Altongy.
Laurice graduated from Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts, with an associate’s degree in secretarial science. Upon graduation, Laurice was employed by General Electric, where she met her husband of almost 60 years, Gilbert Charles Bonin. Laurice continued her career working for the North Syracuse Central School District for 20 fulfilling years as a teacher’s aide. Laurice was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and believed in the power of the rosary and prayer.
Upon retiring in 1999, Laurice enriched her life further by being an integral part of all her grandchildren’s lives. She could often be seen in the bleachers attending one of her grandchildren’s events. Her grandchildren truly were her pride and joy and they made her life complete!
She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph G. Altongy; brother-in-law, Dr. John F. Millett, and son-in-law Timothy W. Gacek. Surviving to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Gilbert; daughter, Renée (Douglas) Moonan; son, David (Jean) Bonin; daughter, Lauren Gacek; beloved grandchildren, Shawn and Riley Moonan, Brittany, Beth and Brian Bonin, Andrew and Brendan Gacek; sister, Margaret Millett; brother, Dr. Albert (Anne) Altongy; and several nieces and nephews.
