Cazenovia American Legion Post 88 honored Olivia Weiler and Hunter Sattler on Veterans Day last week for their participation in the Girl’s and Boy’s State programs this past summer.
The summer educational programs, sponsored by the American Legion, are held on various college campuses across the U.S. They help develop leadership and pride in American citizenship and arouse an interest in the detailed study of government, according to American Legion information. Participants spend an intensive week learning how to participate in the functioning of their state’s government in preparation for their future roles as responsible adult citizens.
Weiler and Sattler were chosen for being outstanding scholars, athletes and role models for their peers.
“We worked tirelessly … but truly we loved every minute of it,” Weiler said. “This program truly strengthened the respect I already had for the men and women who protect our country.”
Sattler thanked Post 88 for sponsoring him and called it “a very rewarding experience.”
