Editors at Eagle Newspapers were honored for their work at two recent awards ceremonies that celebrate the best journalism in Central New York and statewide. At the New York Press Association conference in April, Syracuse Woman Magazine was honored with third place in the Best Magazine Category for its October edition. Editor Farah Jadran accepted the award. On May 3, the Syracuse Press Club held its Professional Recognition Awards. There, Eagle Star-Review editor Sarah Hall earned first place in the News Feature category for her story “Becoming Drew,” about a family’s journey through their son’s realization that he was transgender. Judges called the story “compelling and sensitively told.” Hall also won second place in the Human Interest Feature category for “The bigger picture,” about The Molly Project, which offers women suffering from serious illness the chance to have professional family portraits taken, and second place in the column category for “Still in our hearts, 20 years later.” The column category covers all print. Eagle Bulletin editor Allie Wenner was also honored by the Syracuse Press Club for her work at WAER-FM. Her “East Side Stories” earned second place in the Radio: Public Affairs Program category.
