Cazenovia’s girls indoor track and field team found itself in a spirited battle with Clinton and Rome Free Academy for top honors at the Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association Partner Relays Friday at Colgate University’s Sanford Field House.
But the Lakers emerged from it with its third consecutive third-place finish of the winter, getting 89 points to hold off RFA (87 points) and Clinton (81 points) at the top.
Clare Costello’s individual victory in the 300-meter dash in 44.20 seconds, combined with a third-place effort from Olivia McEntee (46.29 seconds), produced a victory in a combined 1:30.29, with Oriskany (1:32.25) in second place.
Earlier, Costello and Isabella Quattrone took third (16.03 seconds) in the 55-meter dash, with Costello second (27.66 seconds) to RFA’s Mariah Johnson (27.33 seconds) in the 200-meter dash as part of a third-place team effort (57.33 seconds) with Jessie Matt.
Megan Henderson won the individual 1,000-meter run in 3:21.58, with Grace Milmoe third in 3:24 flat as the Lakers prevailed there, too, in 6:45.38, more than 10 seconds clear of New Hartford (6:55.38). Henderson and Delaney Yates took fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 21.98 seconds.
Liz Pittman teamed with Jessica Macheda as the Lakers and New Hartford shared first place in the long jump, both going 28 feet 10 ½ inches. Pittman and Caeli Carroll got second place (57’10”) behind Clinton (60’4”) in the triple jump.
Sarah Willard, second among individuals in the 600-meter run, teamed with Colleen Stalder to get third (3:45.41) in the team standings. Meredith Shephard, Katie Marshall and Grace Wheeler were third in the 1,500-meter run (11:22.75) as Maureen Milmoe and Julia Raleigh were fourth in the 3,000-meter relay in 25:56.89.
Glenna Kelahan and Tori Fischer cleared 12’6” between them and finished second in the pole vault. Hannah Dain and Joanna Seeley were third in the shot put with throws adding up to 49’7 ½”, with Dain and Kortney Burdin fourth in the weight throw (46’9”). Fischer and Jessica Macheda took fourth in the high jump.
Meanwhile, in the boys MVITA Partner Relays, Cazenovia picked up 28.2 points, the exact same total as Chittenango as they shared sixth place. RFA took the team title with 76.2 points.
For the Bears, Isaac Czarnecki won the individual 1,000-meter run in 2:52.20, and with Kenny Galbraith fourth, the pair also took the team event in a combined 5:52.46, holding off Oneida (5:54.27) for that top spot. That same pair made it to fourth place in the 600 in 3:12 flat.
Ryan O’Herien and Alex Devine put the Lakers in third place in the 55-meter dash in 14.37 seconds, where Chittenango (14.70 seconds) was sixth. But O’Herien did even better in the weight throw, pairing with Reed Lucas to finish second with throws of 78’9”, though RFA (98’10”) was far ahead of the pack.
O’Herien later helped Will Fellows get to fifth (1:22.28) in the 300 as Devine, paired with Teo Lang, went 68’6 ½” for third place in the triple jump. Devine and Cooper Coleman was sixth in the 200 in 54.69 seconds. Fellows was fifth among individuals in the 600 as Cole Willard produced a tie for third with Chittenango’s Martin Boyd, both of them clearing 5’4”.
Dylan Hall and John Masak put the Bears in fourth in the shot put (69’ ½”), just ahead of the Lakers’ Reed Lucas and Sawyer Hunt in fifth (68’2”), with Hall and Mosak fifth in the weight throw (53’11”). John Dullen and Joe Fanto gave the Bears a fifth-place finish in the long jump (32’4 ½”), while Chittenango was sixth in the 3,000 in 23:08.76.
