Amid a full weekend of track and field meets all over the state, Marcellus senior Ryan Manahan and junior Laura Leff both went to White Plains for the 46th annual Glenn D. Loucks Games, and both would earn victories. Manahan was victorious in Friday night’s 800-meter run, roaring to a time of one minute, 52.28 seconds to edge Kellenberg’s Dylan Murphy (1:52.67) and the rest of an elite field of 56 runners. Then, in Saturday’s mile, Manahan claimed third place in 4:13.07 as Pascack Valley’s Ben Malone won in 4:09.73 and St. Benedict’s Ed Cheserek was second in 4:11.19. As for Leff, her victory came in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, held on Saturday afternoon. In a time of 6:52.56, Leff was the only competitor out of 30 to break the seven-minute mark as Marcellus junior Rachel Garn made her way to third place in 7:03.38. On the boys end for West Genesee, Peter Richardson was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.33 seconds, while Josh Harris went 5 feet 6 inches in the high jump to finish 12th. Jordan-Elbridge’s boys track team had a big showing in Saturday’s Weedsport Invitational, finishing third with 76 points behind Weedsport (117 points) and Skaneateles, who was second with 92 points. Jack Gugel pulled away to win the mile in 4:44.88, nearly eight seconds ahead of the field, and helped Dylan Whittico, Austin Whittico and Bill DiRenzo as J-E was victorious in the 4×400 relay, edging Skaneateles, 3:31.87 to 3:32.30. DiRenzo, Jacob Patterson and the DiRenzo brothers won the 1,600 sprint medley in 3:41.02, the only sub-four minute effort. Nick Parkolap prevailed in the triple jump, going 36’8 ½”, nearly half a foot better than Living Word’s Sean Meyer (36’3”). Tyler May was second (130’4”) and Micah Quigley fourth (113’10”) in the discus, with May adding a third (42’7 ½”) in the shot put. Nate Hollis tied for fifth in the high jump. The Eagles’ quartet of Parkolap, Hollis, Tyler Jackson and Austin Milton was second in the 4×800 relay in 9:26.83, just behind Weedsport (9:24.26), as J-E also took sixth in the 4×100 and got third in the weight relay as Quigley, Taylor Jones, Greg Marshall and Justin Quinn finished in 57.73 seconds. A day earlier, at the weather-shortened Oneida Coed Invitational, Solvay picked up 34 points, third behind Fayetteville-Manlius (80 points) and Rome Free Academy (52 points) in a 20-team field. Brian McLeod went 19’11 ½” for third place in the long jump and also was third in the triple jump with a best leap of 40’4 ¼”, and got yet another third-place effort in the high jump, clearing 5’10”. Matt Battaglia gave the Bearcats a second-place finish in the 800, his time of 2:00.61 only trailing F-M’s Connor Farrell (1:59.68) as Josh Marotti was fourth (12 feet) in the pole vault. Nick Cometti was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 52.24 seconds as Matt Cregan got sixth in the mile. Marcellus’ Justin Garn was fourth (1:00.07) in the 400 hurdles as teammate Nate Waite took fifth in the 100 sprint in 11.94 seconds. In the girls shot put, the Mustangs’ Suzanna Sylcox (30’9”) and Johanna Sylcox (30’8 ¼”) were third and fourth, respectively, as Abbie Fallon went 15’9” in the long jump to finish third.
