Just one day after snow was flying in Central New York, tennis balls were flying in Baldwinsville as the high school boys season started again. The Bees, again favored in the CNY Counties League National division, got off to an exquisite start, sweeping its three singles matches from Cicero-North Syracuse Thursday and going on to beat the Northstars 6-1. Only once in singles did it get a bit nervous. Nick Walker got taken to a third set by C-NS’s Nick Werts, but still managed to prevail 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. Already, Dan Kot had romped past Jason Wisely 6-1, 6-1 and Grady Schmidt had earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sean Starkweather. B’ville gained another tough point in doubles, where Eric Johnson and Matt Rothenhoefer lost the first set to the Northstars’ tandem of Tom Canion and Ian Kosciuk, but rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory. Elsewhere in doubles, Hunter Cohen-Ciampichini and Zach Leader beat Connor Doren and Bryan Emiglz 7-5, 6-1, with David Murphy and Scott Wolff topping Mike Riccardi and Devin Smith by reversed scores of 6-1 and 7-5. Jim Neimer and Dave Tack lost, 6-3, 6-2, to Nick Doran and Zack Jones. The big test for B’ville would come this Thursday, though, as it hosted Fayetteville-Manlius after a Tuesday match against Central Square.
