Through all the ups and downs of the 2012 regular season, the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse field hockey teams had done close to everything – except face each other. That finally changed Tuesday night, at Bragman Stadium, where the Northstars showed that it could match up with the Warriors in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw. This game was originally set for Sept. 18, but pushed back by a weather postponement. That only added to the importance of the first encounter, since it came so late in the season and would have a follow-up at LHS Stadium just nine days later. It was the Warriors moving ahead 1-0 in the first half as Emily Burns scored off a feed from Marissa Penge. Just as impressive, though, was the way the Northstars’ defense tailed Emma Lamison everywhere she went, holding her without a point, just as Cazenovia did in an Oct. 6 defeat. All of that would not have mattered, though, if C-NS stayed off the board. But in the second half, McKayla Roberts flashed open in front of the net, getting a pass from Megan Caveny and beating Megan Evangelista for the equalizer. From there, and through seven-on-seven overtime periods, it would remain even, Liverpool on the defensive as C-NS constantly made pushes. Evangelista finished with six saves.
