In a week full of strong performance, the Skaneateles girls tennis team won three different contests and moved to the top of the OHSL Liberty division. This was capped Friday afternoon, against Marcellus, where the Mustangs put up a fierce resistance, but the Lakers still prevailed by a 4-3 margin. Katelyn Ellison and Olivia Gage earned crucial singles points, as Ellison routed Holly Grosholz 6-1, 6-0 and Gage was just as strong in her 6-0, 6-2 victory over Audrey Cerrone. Makenzi Herbst led early, only to fall to Haley Randall 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Grace and Kathryn Magee teamed up for one doubles point, getting past Emily Hennigan and Renee Poullott 6-4, 6-2. Avery Bird and Alaina Davis also prevailed, 6-1, 6-4, over Rebekah Mullins and Genevieve Rao. Liz Belinski and Angela Krouse fell to Grace Hunt and Mary Kate McHale 7-5, 6-2, with Maura McNeil and Maddy Pinkney falling to Megan Charles and Tierney Clark 6-2, 7-6. The Lakers had, perhaps, its most impressive effort of the season in last Monday’s 7-0 shutout of Westhill. To preserve that shutout, Gage, in third singles, had to survive dropping the first set to the Warriors’ Adrianna Carello 6-2 before beating her 6-2 and 6-1 in the second and third sets. Herbst was steady in her 6-3, 6-3 win over Katie Ferrara, while Ellison put away Eileen Fleming 6-1, 6-3. The Magee sisters survived a close first set to beat Phoebe Langdon and Bridget Sherlock 7-5, 6-2. Belinski and Krouse worked past Kalyna Parasczak and Anna Pullano 6-1, 6-3. Also in doubles, Bird and Davis pushed past Conner Catone and Amanda Vecchio 6-1, 6-2, just as Pinkney and Bailey Parsons gained a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Rachel Pilacky and Alyssa Wall. The Lakers carried that good play over into Wednesday’s match with Manlius-Pebble Hill, where it rolled past the Trojans 6-1. Gage, beating Elizabeth Clarkson 6-3, 6-4, capped off a trio of singles victories that included Herbst topping Hannae Lee 6-2, 6-2 and Ellison fighting past Olivia Shepard 6-1, 6-4. In doubles, Belinski and Krouse worked hard to beat Christina Cerio and Scarlet Jaworski 6-4, 7-6. The Magee sisters beat Caroline Blanck and Sarah Malavenda 6-4, 6-1, with Bird and Davis handling Grace Allyn and Sophie Novak 6-4, 6-2.
