Now firmly entrenched within a fall schedule, the Cazenovia girls volleyball team would split its first two matches of the 2012 season. By far, the bigger of the two contests was last Friday’s showdown with Skaneateles at Buckley Gym, where those other Lakers would prevail in three sets 25-15, 25-13, 25-17. A day earlier, Skaneateles had swept Liverpool amid festivities for head coach Doreen Doctor’s 200th career win. But Cazenovia found out that the visitors did not have a letdown from that event. Amber Robinson, in defeat, managed 10 digs, five kills and seven assists. Stacia Volik had six assists and eight digs, while Paige Schultz gained four assists. Constantly playing defense, Cazenovia saw Dominique Lyons and Samantha Prosser each earn 12 digs, with Madison Gabor adding nine digs. Skaneateles featured Sidney Lawson, who had 15 assists and 11 digs, and Julianna Augustine, who earned 10 kills, seven digs and five aces. Two nights earlier, the Lakers had opened its season at Mexico, and found success during a 25-14, 25-12, 25-15 sweep of the Tigers. Robinson, before it was done, amassed eight assists, eight digs, six kills and four aces. Valik served up five aces to go with her nine assists, with Kaitlyn Puulika matching Robinson’s total of six kills. Prossner and Emily Stoker had four kills apiece and Lyons added six digs. With that 1-1 mark, Cazenovia stays at Buckley Gym this week, taking on Phoenix Tuesday and Homer Thursday night.
