It was nice for the Cicero-North Syracuse girls lacrosse team, after an up-and-down start, to get a breather last Tuesday during a 15-3 victory over Rome Free Academy. Ahead 11-2 by halftime, the Northstars saw 10 different players score goals. Caitlyn Hamilton led, scoring three times and adding an assist, while Tiffany Ryan and Kristi Thompson notched two goals apiece. Seven others – Angelina Florczyk, Meghan Duffy, Miriam Ghabarou, Hanna Haven, Sarah Runfola, Megan Caveny, Jill Goettel and Samantha Tortora – got single goals, with Florczyk and Duffy each adding a pair of assists. Haven also had an assist. Then the Northstars, reaching the .500 mark (4-4), made it back-to-back wins on Friday, pushing past Westhill 13-9, mostly due to another superb first half where its attack tore through the Warriors’ defenses on its way to an 11-4 lead. Ryan, with four goals, and Thompson, with three goals, again led the C-NS push, while Duffy had a career-best five assists. Hamilton and Caveny both scored twice, with Hamilton adding two assists. Sarah Bowles returned to form with a goal and two assists as Tortora also converted. On the boys end, C-NS earned its second straight win last Monday, against the combined Syracuse East team (mix of Henninger and Nottingham players), dominating from the start in a 17-6 romp. By the time the first quarter was done, C-NS enjoyed a 6-0 lead. After a brief East uprising in the second period, the Northstars quieted them in the second half, only allowing two goals in those last two periods. Mike Fiorini led with four goals, with Scott Slater and Dylan Kennedy each getting three-goal hat tricks in support. Rob Spenard scored twice as Tyler Heldt managed a goal and three assists. Eric Sauer, Tom Koster and Matt O’Donnell chimed in with their own tallies. Yet everything that went right here would go wrong on Thursday, when the Northstars went to Baldwinsville and struggled through a 15-4 loss to the Bees. Unable to do much in the first half, C-NS fell behind, 7-1, and even as its attack woke up in the third quarter, it could not get much closer. Zach Waldron scored twice, with Kennedy and Dylan Collins getting the other goals. B’ville pulled away, though, as Luke Evans, with eight goals, outscored C-NS by himself. Halfway through its regular season with a 5-3 mark, it would be C-NS’s turn to face West Genesee on Tuesday before games against Oswego and Colonie later this week. The girls Northstars would meet Baldwinsville Monday before playing Central Square and Nichols, a visitor from the Buffalo area.
