Baldwinsville Mayor Joseph Saraceni met with Messenger Editor Erin Wisneski last Wednesday at Shamballa Café and Coffee Roasters in the village to chat about what’s new in the village. Last week’s topic of discussion was a proposed snack shack at Mercer Park, an item that has been an ongoing discussion at the past couple village board meetings. Claudette Roller, retired Baldwinsville Police Department communications officer, has proposed opening a snack bar at Mercer Park using the existing park facility to serve ready to go items such as bags of chips, water, hot dogs and other snacks to park patrons. Will this proposal come to fruition this summer? We hope so. Having a snack bar in Mercer Park will accomplish a couple of things. First, it would provide eyes in the park [referring to discouraging mischief in the park]. It will also provide a necessary service to everyone who enjoys the park. Roller has said she would like to keep the snack bar open daily during park hours, meaning Monday through Sunday every day of the summer season. One of the concerns village board members had was the impact it might have on the Seneca River Days as the Rotary Club typically utilizes the facility for its own fundraising efforts. How is this potential conflict being negotiated? We want to make sure that we continue to have a strong relationship with the Baldwinsville Rotary Club and the Seneca River Days. We are encouraging both parties to come up with an agreement they are both comfortable with. Mayor Saraceni and Editor Wisneski are scheduled to meet for coffee again at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Shamballa, 11 West Genesee St., B’ville. Community members are welcome to join them for coffee and address your concerns about the village with the mayor or send your questions to [email protected] and Editor Wisneski will ask the mayor for you.
