Cazenovia’s girls indoor track and field team had a large presence, and would record some high finishes, during Saturday’s New York State Public High School Association championship meet at Cornell University’s Barton Hall. Ashley Winn got past the early round in the 55-meter dash with an eighth-place time of 7.39 seconds, but slipped back to 7.41 seconds in the semifinals and would finish 11th overall, just eight-hundredths of a second out of the final eight. Taft’s Kimberly Bailey won in 7.15 seconds. Later, in the 300-meter dash, Winn ran to a time of 41.62 seconds, which put her in 12th place, just out of the championship round. Colonie’s Kyle Plante earned the state title in 38.23 seconds. Paige Biviano made it through the opening-round heats in the 55-meter hurdles, reaching the semifinals with a time of 8.83 seconds. She improved to 8.80 seconds in the semis, but could not advance to the finals, where Kailyn Arcury (Williamsville South) earned the top spot in 8.01 seconds. Teammates Caroline Marshall and Jillian Vogl both ran in the Intersectional Medley. Combined with West Genesee’s Kelly Powell and Skaneateles’ Madeline Adams, the Section III quartet took sixth place in a time of 10:35.72. Section II (10:16.68) won the event. In the boys state meet, Cazenovia’s Dylan Muller took part in the pole vault, where he cleared 13 feet and finished in 18th place overall. Iona Prep’s Greg Gallagher took the top spot as the only competitor to clear 15 feet 6 inches.
