In one of the season’s best meets, the Jameville-DeWitt/CBA boys swim team battled right to the last race against Liverpool in Wednesday night’s clash, only to fall to the Warriors 94-92. That last event, the 400 freestyle relay, saw Kevin Potocki, Garrett Farchione, Cory Knapp and Cole Speidel prevail in a time of 3:26.81. But Liverpool finished second and third in that event to nab the clinching points. Prior to that, Speidel had earned a pair of individual titles, tearing to a time of 1:49.49 in the 200 freestyle and, in the 100 butterfly, finishing first in 55.59 seconds. Farchione was second in the 100 freestyle in 51.58 seconds, with Casey Sawyer (55.01 seconds) in third. Potocki, who was second in the 100 butterfly behind Speidel, made his way to first place in the 200 individual medley in 2:08.54, while Knapp needed 5:13.77 to claim the title in the 500 freestyle. Also, Knapp, Potocki, Farchione and Speidel roared to first place in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.75. Liverpool got pushed along by, among others, Dan Roche, who set a Warriors team record in diving when he recorded a total of 300.25 points. Sawyer, Lyndon Pisansky, Will Farnsworth and Charlie Scheftic were second (1:54.90) to Liverpool (1:51.25) in the 200 medley relay. As this went on, Fayetteville-Manlius met Mexico and improved to 5-3 on the season, rolling to a 106-82 win over the Tigers. The Hornets claimed two of the three relays. Will Twichell, Zach Swanson, Luke Oliverio and Paul Topor swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.84, with Nate Green joining Swanson, Oliverio and Topor as F-M won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:45.22. Individually, Twichell won the 50 freestyle in 23.63 seconds and Oliverio prevailed in the 100 freestyle in 53.27 seconds. Swanson beat the field in the 200 freestyle (1:56.61) and Green was first in the 200 IM in 2:18.68.
