As the post-season defense of its Section III Class AA title looms, the Baldwinsville girls soccer team is not having anything close to a scare. Hosting Central Square last Wednesday night, the Bees were steady and productive, not stopping until it had recorded a 7-0 shutout of the Red Hawks. In a nod to what often took place in the last two seasons, sisters Emma and Jackie Firenze took over, their very presence causing trouble for Central Square’s defense. Jackie Firenze managed a three-goal hat trick, her first of the season, while Emma Firenze chimed in with two goals and one assist. Angelica Romeu and Jade Gentile both scored, too, while Cassidy Bruen and Erin Nagle had one assist apiece. It was the Bees’ second straight 7-0 win, following a similar result against Utica Proctor on Oct. 8. There, Romeu hit on consecutive goals in a 5-0 first half where Emma Firenze, Alyssa Tretowicz and Jade Sergeant also converted. Lily VanDeValk and Carson Judkins added second-half tallies. And following those routs, B’ville had a bit of a tougher time in Friday’s game against Cicero-North Syracuse, but still defeated the Northstars 3-1. Again, it was the Firenze sisters leading the way, Emma finding the net twice and Jackie earning the other goal. B’ville led 2-0 at halftime and maintained that margin as Tretowicz and Taryn Guinta both finished with assists. Still with a 12-1 mark, B’ville, no. 13 in the latest state Class AA poll, hosts Rome Free Academy and Fayetteville-Manlius to close out the regular season. The AA sectional playoff pairings get announced on Sunday.
