The Cazenovia girls volleyball team head into Tuesday’s rematch with Skaneateles with a 9-4 record and some confidence following back-to-back Onondaga High School League wins.
Of the two, the Lakers’ encounter with LaFayette proved far more challenging, but Cazenovia had enough to prevail in four sets.
A long first set proved important, as the Lakers pulled it out 28-26, and took that momentum into the second set, where it won by a more comfortable 25-17 margin. LaFayette narrowly avoided a sweep by taking the third set 25-23, but Cazenovia pulled out a close fourth set 25-22 to clinch it.
Amber Robinson pulled off her own triple-double, amassing 23 assists, 15 kills and 21 digs. Also playing strong defense, Madison Gabor and Dominique Lyons managed 23 digs apiece, with Dana Kiselica contributing 15 digs.
Amara Kattrein, with eight kills, four assists and six digs, and Gabor, with seven kills, added depth to the front line as Emily Stoker added five kills and three blocks. Staci Valik added seven assists and nine digs. Jessica Matt managed six digs.
It proved much easier in Thursday’s 25-9, 25-19, 25-14 sweep of Bishop Ludden. Kiselica put up seven aces and four digs, with Kattrein getting five kills. Emily Stoker added three kills and four aces.
As Robinson (five kills, three assists) got to rest, Lyons took charge on the back line, finishing with 10 assists and three aces. Jessica Matt contributed five aces.
