As the season has worn on, the Baldwinsville boys soccer team had to know that one regular-season contest loomed over all the others – its meeting with Fayetteville-Manlius. The two undefeated sides, both ranked in the state Class AA top five, will finally meet each other Saturday afternoon at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, with the winner (if there is one) likely to snare the top seed for the Section III Class AA playoffs later this month. For the Bees, the October tune-ups began with last Monday’s home game against Central Square, a one-sided affair that ended in a 7-0 shutout of the Red Hawks. Ben Ramin had his most productive performance of the season, as the senior scored three times for a hat trick and added two assists. Mike Guardino got two goals, while Jon Price managed a goal and two assists. Adam Lauko had the other goal as Jack Jeffery, Maryan Yakymiv and Trevor Pauldine earned one assist apiece. A visit to Oswego followed on Wednesday night, and though it took a while for the Bees to get rolling, it did so plenty as it blanked the Buccaneers 6-0. Only up 1-0 at halftime, B’ville wore Oswego down, again turning to Ramin, who had his second straight hat trick. Guardino, Pauldine and Jake Gentile picked up single goals, while Price, Andrew Annese and Blaine Drake got credit for assists. When, on Friday night, the Bees blanked Utica Proctor 3-0, not only did it pass the toughest test of the week, it set a new team record with its 12th consecutive win to open the season. B’ville took a 1-0 lead into halftime, keeping itself patient until putting the game away with a pair of late goals. Lauko, Blaine Drake and Adam Gentile each took turns getting a goal, while Ramin and Annese picked up assists. Even with the magnitude of the F-M battle, B’ville can’t look past Wednesday’s visit to Gillette Field to face Cicero-North Syracuse, always a challenging contest in seasons past.
