With a crowded regular season behind them, Skaneateles golfers Jeff Baldetti and Eric Edumnds took dead aim at earning New York State Public High School Athletic Association tournament bids in the Section III championships at Colgate University’s Seven Oaks course. And both of them would succeed, just as they did in 2010.
In the first round on Thursday, Edmunds shot a 76, sliding into third place behind New Hartford’s Derek Bard (72) and Remsen’s Keith Smith (73). Baldetti shot a 78 to tie for sixth place, also advancing to the final round. They played the last 18 holes on Saturday afternoon. Edmunds, in particular, stood out with a 71, tying Bard for low individual honors as he finished in 147, alone in second place, six shots behind Bard. As for Baldetti, he also improved from his first round, to a 75, and with his 153 total easily claimed third place, four shots ahead of Smith and General Brown’s Chadd Call. So now Baldetti and Edumunds would join Derek Bard, Alec Bard (also of New Hartford), Seth Adams (Camden), Conor Salanger and John Clare (both of West Genesee) as they return to Cornell University’s Robert Trent Jones-designed course for the state tournament.
