On Saturday May 14, the third annual Open Your Heart fundraiser to benefit CazCares took place in the meeting hall behind Cazenovia’s First Presbyterian Church. The event combined a silent auction with donations from local businesses, artists and residents. There was also a live auction, for the use of a vacation home on Lake Ontario and a raffle for a Stickley Collector’s Mirror among other prizes. This year’s theme was “Showering Love for CazCares.” The meeting hall was adorned with multicolored streamers, umbrellas and hearts suspended from the ceiling. Tom Seeley spoke on the mission of CazCares and how this charity serves many needing assistance in our area. Jeff DeVeau provided live entertainment and music with the church’s piano. Dave Coombs, co-host of Gomez & Dave in the morning on TK99, was the event’s celebrity auctioneer and Pastor Steve Thomas drew raffle winner names. More than $8,000 was raised at the event. Along with additional funds contributed by Cazenovia Presbyterian’s Outreach Committee, the total donation amount totaled $10,000. All proceeds benefit Caz Cares, a local non-profit food pantry and clothing closet that serves Madison County residents by providing food, clothing, Thanksgiving turkeys and Christmas presents. Literacy, GED and other programs are also offered. Combined with funds raised during two previous events, nearly $25,000 has been donated to serve Madison County families in need over the past three years via Open Your Heart fund raisers.
