In a season of shifting momentum and (of course) lots of weather interruptions, the Baldwinsville softball team had one more chance to gain some confidence before the Section III Class AA playoffs got underway. The Bees visited Fayetteville-Manlius on Saturday afternoon and found some early success, but could not sustain it in a 4-3 defeat to the Hornets. Against F-M pitcher Katie Muller, the Bees grabbed a 3-0 lead by the second inning, as Emily Brissenden and Jessica Testa drove in runs, while Paige Altman doubled and scored a run. Muller gave up nothing more, though, and F-M closed the gap to 3-2 in the third inning, tied it in the fourth and got the go-ahead run in the sixth. Liz Campbell, who gave up 10 hits (three of them to Stephanie Brunet), took the loss. Two days earlier, B’ville lost, 4-2, to West Genesee. Single runs in the first and sixth innings, plus a two-run rally in the fourth, were all the Wildcats needed as pitcher Maggie Monnat held the Bees without a run until the bottom of the seventh. Before the weather conspired to interrupt things again, B’ville had recorded an 11-5 win over Binghamton (Section IV) at home on May 14. Already with a 3-1 lead, B’ville put the game away by batting around in the bottom of the third inning, putting six runs on the Patriots. Brissenden and Sydney Carlucci each had three RBIs as Kaitlyn Massett, Lindsey Varga, Amy Sidroakis and Maggie D’Eredita got two hits apiece. Varga and D’Eredita each scored three runs.
