All of a sudden, the East Syracuse-Minoa girls lacrosse team’s 10-0 start appears far away, mostly because the opposition – and the schedule – got more adverse. At the tail end of playing three times in four days due to weather postponements, the Spartans had to host Jamesville-DeWitt Tuesday afternoon and watched the Red Rams prevail by a score of 13-10. Much fresher, J-D matched everything ESM threw at them, inching its way to a 7-6 halftime lead. Not stopping there, the Rams gradually got away in the second half as warm conditions further wore the hosts down. Taylor Fallon and Taylor Bierwagon both finished with three goals to lead a balanced J-D attack. Lauren Beville had two goals and two assists as Ally Loewy also found the net twice. Kayleigh Cavanaugh, with four assists, and Lauren Swan, with three assists, set up the scoring plays as Caitlin Cariseo and Sonia Narispur joined Cavanaugh with single goals. Marie Prosak made 11 saves.
On ESM’s side, Marlee Vlassis again set the pace, with four goals and one assist. Alyssa Anderalli had two goals and two assists, with Nikki DeVona, Rachel Toole, Megan Legro and Alayna Davis each scoring once. Katie Cook appeared in the net and recorded 13 saves. Right after falling to Liverpool 16-4 on May 7, the Spartans returned home for Monday’s game with Chittenango and again took defeat, this time 12-10 to the Bears. Having only beaten Chittenango 11-10 on April 29, ESM knew the Bears were dangerous, and played a solid first half to take a 5-4 lead. Yet it could not hold on as Chittenango overcame Cook’s nine saves with a concentrated assault that put them in front. Jenna Barber, with five goals and two assists, and Kaitlin Antelmi, with three goals, led the Bears along. Just four players scored for ESM. DeVona, with four goals, and Vlassis, with three goals and one assist, led the way as Anderalli got two goals and Toole also converted.
