Though most track and field athletes could rest during the spring school break, a couple of local girls teams ventured to Tuesday’s Invitational. Competing in a 25-team field, Cazenovia only got 11 points for 13th place. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill rose to eighth place with 26 points as Cicero-North Syracuse rose to victory with 121 points. By herself, Paige Biviano was second in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.37 seconds, an event where CNS’s Katie Osborne (16.14 seconds) took the top spot. Three Lakers – Tori Widrick, Margaret Wolsey and Rachel Grimm – rose to fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 16:20.05, with Widrick fourth among individuals in 5:10.36. Alyssa Durant helped VVS by going 30 feet 11 inches for second place in the triple jump. She was runner-up to CBA’s Betty Etheredge, who won in 32 feet 1/2 inch. The Red Devils’ Alexis Kavanagh used 13.10 seconds to run to third place in the 100-meter dash. Also for VVS, Tammy Beal was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.10, just behind Tully’s Casey Cole (1:10.72). Oneida’s Calley Lynch went 14 feet 5 1/4 inches in the high jump to take fifth place.
