Suffering through a four-game skid, the Jamesville-DeWitt baseball team needed something good to happen – and got it during Monday’s 12-1 victory over Camden. Max Bregande delivered a strong effort on the mound, going six innings for the win as he earned seven strikeouts against three walks allowed. A pair of three-run rallies – one in the first inning, then another in the third – got J-D rolling, and it tacked on a five-run fifth inning for further cushion. Chris Lenish had a home run and two RBIs as Matt Yonta also drove in two runs. Eric Thompson, Mason Schoeneck and Paul Fitzgibbons also drove in runs as Thompson, Lenish, Dan Canfield and Tyler Kirwan each scored twice. Another fine pitching effort came a day later, against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, where Justin Marzella stepped up and shut down the Red Devils 3-1. Through his seven innings on the mound, Marzella amassed 10 strikeouts, allowing four hits and two walks, and kept VVS off the board until the seventh inning. J-D only had five hits, but got to Red Devils pitcher Josh Webb for two runs in the fifth inning to break a 0-0 tie, tacking on another run in the sixth. Lenish had a double and RBI, while Canfield managed two hits. Kirwan, Matt Yonta and Jimmy Sinopoli scored the runs.
