Hot at the start, the West Genesee boys tennis team welcomed the brief onset of summer-like temperatures for last Monday’s match against Liverpool – and kept on winning in advance of this Thursday’s showdown with Fayetteville-Manlius. The Wildcats’ 6-1 victory over the Warriors featured a doubles sweep, saved when Andrew Albert and Brett Smith survived three sets and beat Joe Corcoran and Luke Donigan 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Elsewhere, James Buttner and Mike LaValle handled Pat Kenney and Karl Miller 6-1, 6-3, while Tyler Arnold and Mike Plunkett earned a 6-4, 7-6 win over Sean Martens and Steve Schneider. Shane Heyn and Tanner McGuire had a similar result, beating Bogdan Grynyk and Anthony Taormina by scores of 6-4 and 7-5. WG kept going on Wednesday, improving to 6-0 by handling Auburn 6-1. In first singles, Brent Boleslav topped Rich Granato 6-1, 6-4, just as Garrett Boleslav needed just two sets to get past Parth Patel 6-1, 6-2. Again, the Wildcats dominated in doubles. Plunkett teamed with Eric Grove to beat Matt Carberry and Erik Falciccio 6-1, 6-0, while Heyn and McGuire picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Brad Cuddy and Bryant Wolfe. Buttner and LaValle sailed past Mark Bachman and Tyler Glimpse 6-3, 6-1. Up in singles, Erik Breault lost in straight sets to Jason Lam 6-4, 6-2. But Brent Boleslav atoned with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Chris Brais, while Garrett Boleslav emerged with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Mike Schneider. The Wildcats would sweep a 7-0 non-league match against Bishop Grimes as McGuire played singles, beating Greg Ostaszewski 6-0, 6-2. The Boleslav brothers prevailed in singles, too, with the doubles teams of Arnold-Breault, LaValle-Kevin Jock, Albert-Smith and Alex Fox-Ian Swete losing just three total games in eight sets. This busy, successful week wrapped up Friday with yet another 7-0 win, this one over the Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars. None of the doubles teams – Albert-Smith, Arnold-Breault, Heyn-McGuire and Jock-LaValle – lost more than two games in any single set they played. Buttner beat Ryan Adams 6-2, 6-3, while Garrett Boleslav handled Anthony Mann 6-2, 6-2 and Brent Boleslav got a 6-3, 6-0 win over Kevin Tubolino. Marcellus improved to 2-2 on the season last Tuesday, sweeping Jordan-Elbridge 5-0.Between them, singles players James Garzia, Dan Martin and Bryan Swierczek lost just one game in six total sets, while Sean Dunn and Mike Raymond paired up in doubles to gain a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Nick Pierlion and Anthony Trinh. The Eagles also lost a pair of 5-0 decisions to Cazenovia on Thursday. Meanwhile, Marcellus moved on to win twice more, topping Onondaga 4-1 and Henninger 5-2 in separate non-league matches late in the week. Against the Tigers, Martin and Swierczek both won in straight-set singles matches, with Garzia falling to Kyle Stapleton 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Allan Donahue and Sean Dunn made their own comeback to beat Sarah Grillo and John Lemchak 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, with Kyle McVey and Mike Raymond handing Eric Rush and Alexis Smith 6-2, 6-1. More points were on the line against Henninger, where Garzia, Swierczek and Brian Kershaw all won singles matches in two sets. The doubles matches were split as the teams of Donahue-Dunn and McVey-Raymond both prevailed to overcome a forfeit.
