The East Syracuse-Minoa baseball team opened against Fowler on its home field last Wednesday afternoon and piled up plenty of runs in a 16-2 rout of the Falcons. Striking first, the Spartans scored three times in the bottom of the second. After Fowler cut it to 3-2, ESM got a run in the fourth, then broke things open by batting around in the fifth and recording eight runs, adding four runs in the sixth. Joe Greco had a team-best three RBIs as part of a 16-hit attack. Jeremy Fletcher, Steve Loder, Casey Sullivan, Matt LeGro and Brendan O’Donnell each scored twice as Sullivan and Mike Para produced two RBIs apiece. Para also was the winning pitcher in a three-inning stint as Fletcher, who had three hits, tossed three innings of relief and Greco saw mound time, too. As this went on, Jamesville-DeWitt also opened at home, against Mexico, and rallied in the late stages before falling to the Tigers 5-3 in eight innings. The Rams trailed, 2-0, when it finally got on the board with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mexico restored the margin, only to see J-D come back and tie it, 3-3, with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Dan Canfield and Chris Lenish were credited with RBIs as Tyler Kirwan, Justin Marzella and Eric Thompson scored the runs. Unfazed, the Tigers struck twice in the top of the eighth, then got the last three outs. J-D lost despite the fact that Marzella and Max Bregende allowed just five hits between them. On Mexico’s side, Tyler Dunsmoor and John Beck combined to strike out 12 Rams hitters.
