I am writing to let the community know that I will be running for a position as Village Trustee in the March 15 election. For the past six years, I have served on the Town Zoning Board of Appeals and recently I was appointed as the ZBA liaison to the Comprehensive Planning committee. I think it’s important to be involved and to engage the public as much as possible. I’m a good problem solver and decision maker. My husband and I moved to Skaneateles more than 20 years ago and raised our three children in the community. Two years ago we made the choice to downsize and move to the Village. We chose the Village because municipal water and sewer are important services to us. I enjoy walking in the village to shop and go to our beautiful library or to go out to eat. I appreciate that the sidewalks are maintained and at this time of year I can walk at night with the light from the street lights. In the summer, we enjoy walking downtown for the band concerts and ice cream. Although we haven’t had to use them, thank goodness, we have a reliable ambulance service and fire department. The things that make our Village a great place to live don’t just happen, people make them happen. I would look for ways to increase citizen involvement in the community, and I would recognize and listen to all constituents. I have a range of experience to bring to the position of Village Trustee. In addition to raising a family, I taught 3rd grade and then went to work as a computer salesperson for IBM. Following IBM, I started a software company that was eventually sold to Dun & Bradstreet. I then returned to teaching and am currently employed by the LaFayette School District as a math teacher at the Onondaga Nation School. Business experience taught me about planning and finance, my local experience has taught me about the issues concerning our watershed and development and teaching has given me great patience. One of the big issues facing the Village this year is the budget. This will be the first full year the budget will not have sales tax revenues. I am committed to ensuring that we maintain our quality of life in a fiscally responsible manner. I look forward to talking with you and I hope that you will support my candidacy.
