In one of its toughest matches of the season, the Canastota girls volleyball team split the first two sets of last Monday’s match with Cooperstown, but still beat the Redskins in four. The Raiders got a hint of the difficulty ahead in the first set, pulling it out 25-20, but Cooperstown surged in front during the second set and won by a convincing 25-17 margin to square the match. Canastota shook that off and, in the third set, rolled to victory 25-13 to move ahead, leading to a fourth set where the Raiders struggled a bit, but still closed it out 25-21. Working all over the court, Jessica Patterelli accumulated 25 assists and 10 kills, plus nine digs. Katelyn Rounds had nine kills and nine digs, with Stephanie Thornton also gaining nine kills. Tracy O’Hern chimed in with five kills, three blocks and five digs as Melissa Krak contributed four kills. Morrisville-Eaton met Hamilton and, in the first of two regular-season meetings between the rivals, the Warriors won in four sets. The second game proved pivotal as M-E, having already won the opener 25-17, got pushed beyond the limit, but still beat Hamilton 27-25. The Emerald Knights prolonged the match with a 25-23 third-set win, but the Warriors dominated the fourth set 25-11. Rachel Morris had 11 assists, 11 digs and three kills, with Shelby Brown gathering up nine digs, seven assists and five aces. Up front, Stephanie Davis earned 10 kills and nine digs as Jessica Chandler got four blocks and three kills.
