At its meeting last night, the Camillus Town Board approved changes to municipal law related to CDS Group’s desire to re-open the former Syracuse Pottery clay mining site – subject to the planning board’s approval when they meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the municipal building. The town passed three resolutions: one defining mining; another allowing for mining in an industrial district pending a special use permit; and a third setting the criteria that must be met in order to mine. If the planning board approves the changes to local law, they are expected to then advise the Zoning Board of Appeals as they consider CDS Group’s special use permit application. A public hearing with the Zoning Board of Appeals is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at the municipal building to consider granting CDS Group a special permit to mine clay. CDS Group is Rich Canestrare, Nick DeSantis and Paul Skrupa.
