So it is all set – the Cazenovia girls cross country team will battle Skaneateles and Westhill on Wednesday, with the OHSL Liberty division regular-season championship on the line between the two sets of Lakers, both undefeated in league competition. This duel was set up by last Wednesday’s activity in separate meets. While Skaneateles was beating CBA 20-41, Cazenovia was taking care of two other league rivals at Jordan-Elbridge, beating the Eagles and Solvay by equal 15-50 margins. Without running together, Cazenovia managed to sweep the top seven finishing spots, starting with Rae Tobey, who won the race in 16 minutes, 54 seconds. Hollie Marcelle landed in second place in 17:03, just nine seconds behind Tobey. Jeannette Cudney claimed third place in 17:27, while Malone Gabor was fourth in 17:42. Michelle Karker, in fifth place in 17:56, rounded out the scoring, but Margaret Wolsey stepped up to take sixth place (18:13) and Emma Wolsey was seventh in 18:21. Alex Dolbear was 10th in 18:45. In the boys race, where Cazenovia lost 19-44 to J-E and 20-40 to Solvay, Pat Dermody battled for individual honors, only to finish second in a time of 14:01, just seven seconds behind the Eagles’ Greg Bader. No other Laker was in the top 10. Cazenovia’s girls team dueled with Tully at Saturday’s East Syracuse-Minoa Invitational – but it was the Black Knights taking the team title in the Small Schools division, 23 points to the Lakers’ 48. Tully’s runners claimed eight of the top 14 spots, though Tobey did finish fourth in 20:43.9 and Cudney took sixth place in 20:58.2. Karker was 11th (21:23.2), with Margaret Wolsey in 15th place (21:50.8) and Emma Wolsey 17th in 22:00.7. On the boys side, Darien Smith finished 28th in 20:17.4.
