The Baldwinsville boys cross country team would go to Saturday’s Vernon Verona Sherrill Invitational and, at the same venue where the Section III championships will get decided early in November, won the Varsity 1 race. The Bees had 48 points, well clear of runner-up Vestal, who had 81 points. Alec Peinkofer led the way, his second-place time of 17:22.8 only trailing East Syracuse-Minoa’s Mike Coogan (16:43.6), while Ethan Pacheck stepped up to finish fourth in 17:29.7. Andy Fleming continued to improve, running to 11th place in 18:13.3, while junior Matt Pond took 15th place (18:23.4) and Josh Perez, in 16th place (18:26.1), closed out the victory. In the girls Varsity 1 race at VVS, the Bees were third, with 105 points, as Tully (57 points) held off Vestal (59 points) for the top spot. Mallory Warner recorded a fourth-place finish in 21:03.5, as Annie Peterson stood out, too, finishing 10th in 21:33.5. Further down, Andrea Moore ran to 25th place (22:46.5), with Julia Johnson claiming 32nd place in 23:10.9 and Nicole Lyons getting 40th place in 23:32.7. Both of B’ville’s teams square off with Cicero-North Syracuse Wednesday at Oneida Shores.
