Going into the pool for the first time in the 2010 regular season, the West Genesee girls swim team went to Nottingham last Wednesday night and did enough to record a 94-86 victory over the Bulldogs. As a starting point, the Wildcats claimed the 200 medley relay as Shannon Callahan, Emily Kamoza, Erin Dowler and Regina Stracqualursi finished in a time of 2:05.42. Olivia Castro won twice for WG, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:09.38 before swimming through the 100 butterfly in 1:07.01. Kim Pedrotti was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:25.11. Other individual titles went to Gigi Branca (50 freestyle, 29.27 seconds), Abby Mullet (500 freestyle, 6:07.39) and Ali Miedaner, who earned 182.85 points on the diving board. Kristen Mooney and Rachel Donovan joined Emily Kamoza and Hannah Kamoza as they won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.15. Even with double wins from both Rachel and Lauren Perry, Westhill/Corcoran could not catch Mexico in last Monday’s home meet, taking a 97-85 loss to the Tigers. Rachel Perry claimed her first first title in the 200 individual medley, prevailing in a time of 2:30.03, and later needed 1:05.39 to prevail in the 100 backstroke. As for Lauren Perry, she beat Katie Lamb, 25.92 seconds to 27.87, in the 50 freestyle, then turned to the longer 500 freestyle and won that race in 5:24.81. Mexico countered by winning all three of the relay events. The Warriors still saw Imani Williams pick up 232.55 points on the diving board as Michelle Casey edged out Maura Fleming, 2:17.46 to 2:18.62, in the 200 freestyle.
