Following an 0-2 start, the Skaneateles girls tennis team broke into the win column on Sept. 10 by holding on for a 4-3 victory over Jordan-Elbridge. Makenzie Herbst won in singles, sweeping past Kaitlyn Assman 6-2, 6-1. All the other points came in doubles, where Olivia Gage and Chelsea White beat Carly Milano and Dylan Richardson 6-4, 6-1, while Avery Bird and Joy DeCastro beat Kelsey Gage and Emma Stanton 6-1, 6-3. Emily Call and Katharina Kulik also won in two sets. Five days later, the Lakers were back on the court — and winning in a more convincing manner as it took out Bishop Grimes 6-1. To maintain a singles sweep, Alaina Davis needed three sets to beat Erannan Shattuck 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Herbst earned a 7-5, 6-0 win over Amelia Heiselman, while Katelyn Ellison topped Kathleen Ecal 6-2, 6-0. Moving to doubles, DeCastro and Gage went through three long sets in a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Gisella Barletta and Caroline Benbenek. Kulik teamed with Kathryn Magee to beat Michele Godlewski and Mackenzie Thomson 6-3, 7-5 as Emily Call and Chelsea White earned a 6-3, 6-2 sweep of Maria King and Alexis Kuberski. Skaneateles would make it three wins in a row, upending Pulaski as Herbst handled Cathy Brown 6-0, 7-5 in singles, with Davis beating Kalina Sutton 6-2, 6-3 and Ellison topping Sam Keeney by those exact same scores. The doubles teams of Kulik-Magee and Call-White also won in two sets. The Lakers would be home at the Austin Park courts Monday and Friday for matches against Marcellus and Westhill, with a trip to Cazenovia in between.
