West Genesee’s girls tennis team moved to 2-0 on the season last Tuesday afternoon by putting together a 7-0 shutout of the Corcoran Cougars. In four doubles matches, the teams of Lexi Myers-Anisha Shetty, Miranda Dowling-Allison Theberge, Mackenzie Haley-Mackenzie Payne and Alyssa Choice-Danielle Fofi lost just one game in eight sets. Up in singles, Alexa Rahrle had the toughest match, but still beat Esperance Muhimpundu 6-3, 6-1 as Karin Gasparini handled Clara Pritchard 6-0, 6-2 and Taylor Ginestro earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Princess Glotto. Then, in a non-league match on Wednesday, the Wildcats handled East Syracuse-Minoa 6-1, maintaining the doubles sweep when Theresa Clark and Danielle Fofi recorded a 6-1, 6-7, 10-6 victory over Carly Eaton and Jacqueline Moshier. Elsewhere, the duos of Myers-Shetty, Dowling-Theberge and Haley-Payne all claimed two-set wins, while Gasparini beat Caitlin Underwood 6-4, 6-2 and Ginestro took out Tess Eastman 6-2, 6-2. In three sets, Alexa Rahrle lost to Samantha Lobello 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Westhill and Marcellus also got off to 2-0 starts, both of them earning 7-0 sweeps of Jordan-Elbridge. The Warriors got a singles sweep from Bree Sherlock, Katie Ferrara and Eileen Fleming, while the Mustangs did extra work in doubles. Leah May and Haley Randall lost the first set to the Eagles’ tandem of Nicole Elking and Jessica Somes, but rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win. Tierney Clark and Cora Bechteler also needed three sets before beating Melissa Hankin and Kim Bader 6-4, 6-7, 12-9. Catie Nonemacher, Colleen Stapleton and Emily Gascon prevailed in straight-set singles decisions. On Wednesday, Westhill made it three wins in as many matches, working its way past the Skaneateles Lakers by a 5-2 margin. Setting the tone in singles, Ferrara toped Alana Davis 6-3, 6-2, while Fleming got a 7-5, 6-2 win over Olivia Gage. Westhill also went 3-1 in doubles as Adrianna Carello and Casey Hagen swept Katelyn Ellison and Chelsea White 6-3, 6-2, with Kathleen Dillon and Anna Pullano getting past Avery Bird and Lauren Canzio 6-4, 6-2.
