The Cicero-North Syracuse boys volleyball team started with back-to-back defeats to Midlakes and Penfield prior to Labor Day weekend, but turned around on Tuesday night and beat Liverpool in a three-game sweep. Once it got past a 27-25 first game, the Northstars rolled through the next two games 25-14 and 25-19. Jim Coleman registered 31 assists, feeding it to Ethan Irish, who earned 11 kills and six aces, and Tyler A. Smith, who had 10 kills. Billy Werksman added four kills and Kevin Bane had four digs. A far bigger win came on Wednesday, when CNS went to Baldwinsville and swept the reigning Section III Class AA champion Bees. The Northstars won the first game 25-22, then pulled out a tense 30-28 second game before closing it out 25-20 in the third game. Irish improved to 15 kills, adding five digs, while Werksman recorded 12 kills and four digs and Smith contributed nine kills. Coleman fed them all with 31 assists as Adam Collins played superb defense, earning eight digs.
