As part of the 175th anniversary of the village of Jordan, “Pickin’ in the Park” will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday July 10 in Canal Park behind the Masonic Lodge in the village. The bluegrass event will feature music by Sammy award winners John Cadley and the Lost Boys, old-time music by The Salt Potatoes, featuring Harvey Nusbaum, and the up-and-coming band Barleywine. The event will kickoff with two hours of open mic for any bluegrass or oldtime country musician to entertain the crowd on a first-come basis. But the organized entertainment is only part of what Pickin’ in the Park has to offer. Talented bluegrass and old time country musicians will often gather amongst themselves in small groups and play, and organizers hope this event will foster that tradition. Rumor has it the Erie Canal Cloggers may also join the fun with an impromptu clogging session.
The event is free. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the Masonic Lodge, but no alcoholic beverages will be allowed to keep the event family-friendly. Audience members are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket. Pickin’ in the Park is sponsored by the village of Jordan, The Cultural Resources Council of Onondaga County, a grant secured by Sen. John A. DeFrancisco, as well as Lyons National Bank and the Jordan Masonic Lodge #386. The tent and stage will be provided by the village of Elbridge.
