Steve Kay, second from left, is the recipient of this year’s Onondaga County Volunteer Firemen’s Association “First Pitch Award.” Kay, a past fire chief of the Warners Volunteer Fire Department, was honored at the June 8 Syracuse Chiefs game against the Louisville Bats. He has been a volunteer firefighter for more than 51 years and is still an active responder with Warners. OCVFA public relations chair Gordon Kotars said Kay received the award in recognition of his tireless efforts working with youth in fire service and best exemplifying the spirit of being a firefighter.
