A single run, and single hit, kept the Baldwinsville softball team from moving ahead in the Section III Class AA playoffs. The no. 5 seed Bees visited Camillus last Thursday to face no. 4 seed West Genesee, and it went to the wire before the Wildcats ended B’ville’s season in a 3-2 decision. Up against WG pitching ace Ashley Amidon, the Bees struck for a run in the top of the first inning, only to have the Wildcats answer with two runs in the bottom of that frame to move in front. From there, Cassie Williams settled down, blanking WG over the next five innings. She finally got some help when, in the top of the sixth, B’ville tied it, 2-2. There it remained until the bottom of the seventh. With Gabby Rivers on base, Trish Andrews lashed her second single of the game, bringing Rivers home with the decisive run. It was just the fifth hit Williams had allowed all afternoon, as she did not surrender a walk and earned 12 strikeouts, the exact same totals as Amidon. Kristen Biedermann earned an RBI as Katrina Conklin had two hits and scored a run. Kristen Baldino also scored a run. B’ville finished with a record of 13-8 and will see a strong core of talent, including Williams, Biedermann, Conklin, Katie Ducharme, Katie Dobkowski and Kristen Baldino, depart.
